Welcome to Oxbow Outfitters!
Fly Fishing Colorado and Colorado Trout Fishing Extraordinaire!

Fishing is a lot of things to a lot of people. For some fishing is just a great excuse to get outside and do something. For many it is a means by which very basic and fundamental curiosities about things unknowncan be explored, that is, things or fishes that are unseen or invisible.

Much of fishingdom's metaphorical thrust, I suspect, derives from that "plumbing the depths of the unknown" mythos. For yet others it is nonsense, a sheer waste of time -- especially catch and release fly fishing. For me it is at once a form of sport, a metaphorical medium, a way I can participate in the natural order of things, and a process by which I've become an ardent student of one of the most fascinating ecosystems a mountain environment provides.

We do "catch and release" fly fishing in Colorado and Montana. By the concept fly fishing, what is meant is mostly a description or limitation on the kind of tackle we use. By catch and release, we mean that we don't intentionally kill or harvest any of the fish we catch. By telling you what I do and how I do it will sound to many like a form of judgement against those who have opinions about doing things that differ from my own. That is not my intention. I'm just adamant and excited and enthusiastic about what works for me as it relates to how I think it might also work for you. And if it works for you, then it will impart to you the kind of joy that I feel when I do it. And if that happens, then I will have been successful in communicating and sharing with you what I think is so rewarding, magical, and worth while in the ongoing poem that I think fly fishing is.

Then you will find the value in fly fishing that I offer you. If you see that value the way I do, then you'll want other people to see it too -- usually loved ones and friends. That, in my humble opinion, is how we communicate and share, people; that is how we preserve and protect. And that is what is fundamental to everything I intend where fly fishing is concerned. And therein I believe we'll all open doors that lead to enchantment.
